Chartering is a central aspect of commercial management at Portx. In line with BIMCO’s Standard Ship Management Agreement, “SHIPMAN 2009,” this involves seeking and negotiating employment for the vessel, and concluding charter parties or other contracts related to its employment. Depending on the owner’s requests, we offer single time charters (“time charter trips”) or, when needed, period employment for each ship voyage.
Our Vienna office manages chartering for handy, supra size, and Panamax ships, while our Odessa office handles tonnage up to 13,000 dwt. We strive to secure optimal employment to maximize earnings and position vessels advantageously in a fluctuating market. To ensure security, all potential new business partners and charterers undergo thorough screening.
Additionally, we focus on strengthening relationships with cargo interests and securing contract employment to support the expansion of our fleet.
The operational aspect of commercial management is crucial for optimizing profitability and minimizing costs. Our skilled ship operators are dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient handling of all vessels and the seamless execution of every voyage.
We maintain continuous communication with ship Masters, charterers, brokers, port agents, and bunker suppliers. Our operators understand the significant impact their work has on commercial outcomes within the competitive shipping industry. To address potential issues swiftly and effectively, there is constant coordination with our commercial department.
It is difficult to envision a modern commercial management model without a comprehensive system that includes tools such as voyage estimating and accounting, actual voyage results calculations, full load calculations, route optimization, and calculations for hire, freights, demurrage, and dispatch monies owed to or from the vessel’s charterers. Effective accounts control and performance analysis, including time charter equivalents for any required period, are also essential.
